Read about our Firewall Mentors
What we do for students would not be possible without our mentors. So we would like to introduce you to our lead mentor at Lauderhill 6-12, Miatz. She is currently studying at Broward College and is a Pre-Med. Her dream career is to be a pediatrician and to improve the quality of life by providing healthcare to children, regardless of their immigration status. Her favorite part about serving at Firewall? “The bond I get to make with kids every single day. They give me a reason to be the best version of myself due to the fact that many are looking up to me as a role model. I’m not only there to mentor/supervise them, but I also get to learn from them as the day goes by. Firewall is a second family to me.”
Meet Nirmel. He is a History major at Broward College and his dream career is to be a teacher. He is passionate about reaching youth who never receive encouragement and second chances in life so he can help them realize their true potential. His favorite part about serving at Firewall? “I get to know students at their level and see their side of things. Then I learn what I can do to help their situation and further promote good actions and behavior.”
Meet Emily, one of our AmeriCorps Firewall Mentors at Blanche Ely High. Here she's pictured with one of our Firewall students and servant leaders, Valerie. 1. This is her second year serving at Firewall’s Blanche Ely High Center. 2. She recently switched her major from Art History to Social Work 3. Emily now wants to be a High School Counselor in Broward County. As a counselor, she wants to be the voice for kids that go through hard times and get them the help that they need to be successful.” 4. BONUS: Last year, she brought in homemade Oreo desserts for Firewall students and staff…. And their tastebuds STILL dream about them 😛

Get ready for this week's Mentor Monday 😀 Meet Danny, our Lead Mentor at Plantation High School. Danny is a student at Nova Southeastern University and working towards his master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. He loves to help people in need and plans to become a Marriage and Family Therapist someday. His favorite part about serving at Firewall? “Helping the students grow academically and personally by building strong relationships with them. I love being both the mentor and ‘elevator friend’ they need.” Thank you Danny for building students up and for helping them with their academics!
