As an AmeriCorps Firewall Mentor, you can help make the world a better place by helping Firewall students learn and grow.

What are the requirements?

Requirements include:

  • High School diploma
  • Serve 450 hours
  • Commit to serve for 10 months

What does training consist of?

When accepted, AmeriCorps members will receive an orientation packet and will be required to participate in an intensive two-day initial training, ongoing quarterly workshops, and site-specific training as required.

Each training session will equip AmeriCorps Firewall members with the necessary skills to meet student needs and learn how to best communicate with parents, teachers, schools, and volunteers.

How long must I commit to serve?

Min. 1 year (450 hrs./yr)

When does service begin and end?

Service begins during the 2nd week of August and ends during the first week of June.

Where will I be serving?

All program locations are within Broward County Public Schools. Locations include:

  • Sunrise
  • Davie
  • Plantation
  • Pompano
  • Lauderhill

What will I be doing?

The mentor is an essential member of Firewall’s leadership team. Mentors build a close relationship with a group of students, model positive behaviors, and tutor and help with homework. For more details, read the mentor job description here

What is the attire for the service year?

In accordance with the AmeriCorps program, all members are required to be in AmeriCorps gear for each day of service. Firewall Centers will provide several AmeriCorps shirts.
